Chasing Time

Time is a valuable thing. We never have enough of it and what little we have of it sneaks past us. It was once said that "trying to grab time is like trying to catch water with your hand, both are impossible". My time as a fresher at uni is approaching fast and it will not too long before I back at home enjoying the delights of roast dinners and home cooked food. But this year has speed past me and has disappeared into the realms of memory. The people I have meet, I feel like I have always known them forever but yet like I only meet them yesterday.

It was hard for me when I first came to uni cause I was not very well but the people have been really cool and helpful. At uni we have got along really well. My very first day at uni, looking back makes me think that it was not so long ago but yet it was over 8 months ago. We humans do have a strange perception of Time.

My aim to get back of top of work at the moment didn't really happen today as I decided to catch up on anime and TV instead. I watch the latest Doctor Who episode and I was really impressed indeed. In fact I can not wait - even though I am going to have to - for the next installment that is two weeks away. But yet I know it will fly past me in moments. I also watched the latest Naruto and Darker than black today. the latest Naruto series is going very slowly and has left me annoyed at the lack of speed in unrolling the plot. Whereas Darker than black has left me wanting more. The plot to that is intriqing and the universe it creates is vast. This anime indeed has much potential and could become on the selected list of stuff I may buy one day.

Of course tomorrow I can start on uni work. That is the joy of a new day, you can do the things you never had time for.

All play and no work = Happy Me + ruining life

University is a place of many aspects. There is the amazing social life which keeps you awake at all hours of the night. And then they is the work. You can always come down to the two things in life: work and play. You always need to get the right balance, if you don't then your life slips before you and plunges you into a world of despair.

Unfortunately for me, I am getting the balance wrong. I am years behind on my work and I am beginning to see the effects of it. Exams are fast approaching and since I have have failed to attend about 87% of my lectures, I am in deep trouble.

Today is a perfect example of more work than play. Instead of attending a boring two hour lecture on analysing systems - a boring subject indeed - I went to a water fight. A fun few hours of attacking each other with balloons filled with water whilst attempting to avoid the incoming missiles from your opponents. It was entertain and far much for interesting than lectures. But fun is obtained at a price. I have no idea what to do for the exam and since I am failing the first year at the moment it was unwise to miss lectures. I need to learn to get the balance right otherwise i will be in even more trouble.

I aim to get back on top and to pass the first year of uni. I intend to do this by doing lots of reading up on lecture notes. Hopefully then I can pass and move on to year two.

Long time no see

Yes it has taken forever for me to write a new post. Uni life is busy and gives me no time at all. This is a shame but would like to point out that it is not the work which keeps me busy it is the social life.

So instead of here trying to speak about what has happened whilst I have failed to update my blog I am going to instead talk about what is happening now and sometimes add in little notes to fill the gaps.

Well I am currently enjoying going though my anime at the moment. Death Note has become again amazing and gripping me to a choking hold. I want to know what happens but without not reading the manga - I prefer the anime much to the manga - or cheating and going on wikipedia like many people are doing - You know who you are.

I am supposed to be working on some uni coursework but I have the incredibility ability to find more important jobs to do. There is a direct correlation between the tidiness of my room to when coursework is required.

That probably why I am failing the first year :-(

The night before christmas

Christmas Eve, it is well known. But this is the night before Christmas.

In fact whilst I am writing this. A family somewhere is sending their child upstairs to go to bed. He most likely excited for he knows that tomorrow their will be a large sack at the bottom of his bed and lots of amazing new toys to play with. In fact somewhere at this moment a child could be excited because they know that Santa is coming tonight. And to finally answer the age old question of his existence they are most likely planning something to capture Santa and to discover the answer to that question which plagues their mind.

Christmas is only time of the year these days that we get to see some of those family members who we have somehow managed to avoid the rest of the year. Why could that possibly be? Is it that somehow in this chaotic and fast moving world we still have preserved the joy of gathering together and enjoying what you can of each others company. Or is it that we have become chained to a tradition that we have long forgotten why it was started in the first place?

Well since coming back from university for Christmas and enjoying what I can on free food. I have realised that indeed Christmas is about many things. It is not only about the birth of baby Jesus, but also about family. It is also about eating too much and then suffering from indigestion afterwards however, that is beside the point of this entry.

So whether you are on you own this Christmas away from family or current staying with family I wish you the merriest Christmas possible.

Death Note - Whos ever name you shall write, they will die

Death Note is the latest anime, which has gripped me and held in despair waiting for the next episode to air. If you were to ask me is Death Note any good? I will reply sharply that is it amazing.

Death Note is about a bored Death God who drops his Death Note into the human world for fun. Light a 17-year-old genius finds it. If a name of a person is written in the book whilst keeping their face in mind. They shall die in 40 seconds.

With this new power Light decides to create a world where he judges the people and decides who is acceptable and who is unworthy for living. He starts writing the names of criminals into the Death Note and hundreds of criminals start to die. The press and police realise that someone doing these killings and nickname the killer kira – after the name killer.

L is a police detective who keeps his identity a secret. He decides to try and capture kira and put an end to his murders. After an indirect confirmation on TV with kira. L proves himself to be a match against kira.

Now the game is set. Who ever discovers the others identity first, will be the one to win. After this, the series just gets better and better. Soon after watching this you will be hooked for more and more.

Unfortunately we are only up to episode 11. In which the series opens up again and the excitement in me can only be repressed by the fact I have to Christmas shopping sometime this week.

Yes Christmas is occurring fast and as of the moment I am far from ready to face it. I really need to start purchasing presents. Today is the 23rd and Christmas Day is only two days away. Still this year has been quite on sister’s want me to cook Christmas dinner with her. She has either given up after last years failed attempts or she too is just too lazy like me to actually bother with the work.

Still in case I fail to update my blog before Christmas I shall wish you all a merry Christmas. Of course if you are politically correct please forget what I have written before and let me wish you a happy holiday – you boring people. Of course in case I am even slower to update before the New Year then I wish you a happy new year. And that goes to the politically correct people.

Long time no see my old friend

Yes it has been a while since I sat down and decided to update my blog. But here I am again writing away. In fact so much as happened since I stopped updating. Well for starters I am at university and I have a Mac.

So what can I say about university life. Well it is amazing! Yes I can sum it up in that few amount of words. Leaving home and moving to a build occupied by over a couple hundred students and learning how to survive in the world independent is an incredible experience. There are many advantages to living in halls of residents and there are a few disadvantages, plus they are many fire alarms – apparently many students are inexperienced toast cookers.

Here is my average week:

• 3% sleep
• 5 % study
• 2% attending lectures
• 10% missing lectures
• 80% social

and about 79% of social is drinking. So my liver is to be screwed by the time I finish university. Good thing it regrows ….. Eventually.

But yes Christmas is fast approaching. So I am currently at home enjoying – making the most of – mum’s home made cooking, washing done for me and a dish wisher. These are luxuries that we often take for granted. Only when we lose them do we really understand how privileged we were.

My parents were surprised I gave the HD-TV, the dish wisher and then finally the sky box a hug when I came home. Still I missed them.

So I must go, excellent food awaits me and I must make be use of the TV whilst I can.
